David Martin stood near the waters edge. A storm was brewing. He
could feel, he could taste the energy in the air.

It was much like the smell of fresh brewed coffee, bacon and eggs to
a mortal in need of a good breakfast when they were starving.

David was not a mortal though. He was an Elemental Vampire.
Indistinguishable from human beings in every way by his simple
outward appearance. But his supernatural abilities set him far beyond
them.

He had the ability to feast upon the elements, to replenish his
natural energy deficiency in this way. Like many elemental vampires
he reverenced nature, and the very thing that kept him alive night
after night, far beyond the normal mortal lifespan he should have led.

It was much like inhaling the crisp cool night air, only it was
deeper, more profound, more mystical. David's hands were raised into
the air, and he drew the energy he so desperately needed into himself.

Then, as he had done a thousand other times, he summoned the winds
unto himself, marveling in what he was able to do.

David spoke ancient words, who's meaning he had been contemplating
for years, since he first heard them spoken to him by his father.

"Earth, fire, water air, in me all things are there..." David
collapsed onto his back, watching the storm brewing in the night sky.
He loved this part of what he was. Being able to connect to nature
in the way no other vampire ever did, or ever could.

He did this to remeind himself of what it was he fought so hard to
protect, lest he forget.

"We are guardians of the earth. We keep protect the humans from
themselves, and the world from the humans...." David reminded himself.

There was a need for his kind to do their ancient role more now
then ever before. More and more species of animal died everyday.
Trees were cut down for parking lots. The world was polluted by
carelessness, the very thing upon which they needed to feast,
endangered by careless and corruption of mortals, and it could not be
allowed. It would not be.

So perhaps Elementals, more than any other kind of vampire, were
crusaders, but they needed to be. To save mortals from themselves.
They needed the world just as badly as the elementals did after
all, the had only forgotten.

Damona went seeking out David Martin, her ex husband and the father
of her two children Francis and Clare Martin.

She found him lying on the beach feeding from a storm, and Damona
looked down at David, whom she still loved even if she could not live
with him, and she looked down at him. "Enjoying the storm, David?
James told me you were in town. I spent all night looking for you,
not that finding you was very hard, you always gravitate to the
waterfront."

David looked up from the ground where he had been lying and began
moving into a sitting position. "We first made love on the beach
remember. Francis and Clare were undoubtedly conceived by the water.
Our children, born of Pure Elemental Blood were delivered by the
water on a night very much like this...."

Damona looked at David. He had a way of stirring feeling in her and
if she wasn't careful she'd be lettting him peel clothing off of her
before the night was over.

David was near her kissing her neck seducing her already. "David,
dont.....I didn't come here for this......I came here about the war."

David withdrew from Damona, hurt a bit that she was continuing to
shut him out.

"What do you want Damona? Its obviously not my love." David said.
So why did you come?" David asked.

"I dont want you to travel to Rome to sign the Peace treaty on behalf
of the Elemental Vampires. I want you to go to London instead and
advocate the attack upon the Blood Vampires." Damona said.

"Are you totally and completely out of your mind?" David said
looking at her. "I didn't work as hard as I did to get people to
listen to me and trust me only to start talking about an unprovoked
attack on anyone.....I am trying to bring peace to the vampire
nation.......to at least try, there is no reason for that attack.
Its stupid. Its not going accomplish a thing. You know that the
Prince of London wants peace. Hes sick of this war as much as
I am, and Im not going to put him to death to pacify you."

"David....do you love me?" Damona asked.

"ITs not fucking about that Damona...." David said. "If there must be
a fight I will fight Im not a coward but I will not advocate going
in there and putting a man to death for no reason. Not even for you."

"David.....you know how I feel about this whole peace thing. I know you
think I'm deluded...but I dont think we can have peace so long as the
Blood Drinkers rule the night.

We have spent years and years bowing before their demands, and living
as second class citizens of this society, and David, I am quite frankly
sick and tired of this.

You have the will and passion to make a change, why dont you take that
will and that passion and put it towards something that is going to
make a difference in the long run.

Elemental vampires can not stay neutral in this fight forever.

David, can you feel the earth is broken and dying, can you see what the
mortals are doing to this?

The Blood Vampires are ignoring the need to make the mortals respect
the world we need to survive. They are so concerned with their own
politics and idiocity that they are allowing the
unforgivable........they have betrayed us all....." Damona said. "Im
going to go to London, whether you like it or not, and Im going to
advocate the removal of the Prince there and his execution
for treason to the vampire nation. I know you dont want that,
I know that there might be a clash......we may end up on
opposite sides of this war."

David pulled her close again and crushed his lips against her to
silence her for a moment. Then he whispered. "If you do it, I
will have to fight you"

Damona pulled away, and nodded as she began to leave David's side.
This wasnt what she wanted by any stretch of the imagination but
he had already chosen a side. It seemed they might end up as enemies
before this was all said and done.
